New Resource Alert: Download These Operation Smile-led Research Papers

Published on November 6, 2025

It's a staggering figure: Women who reported cooking over an open flame were 50 percent more likely to have a child born with a cleft condition, said Operation Smile's Associate Vice President of Research and Impact Allyn Decoteau.

This is among the key findings of Operation Smile's International Family Study, also known as the IFS.

Operation Smile has teamed up with the University of Southern California (USC) and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to conduct the IFS in an attempt to better understand why the condition happens in the first place and, hopefully, find a way to ensure that no more people are born with cleft.

Now you can download this paper and others on iSmile under the "Resources" tab.

And as Allyn has said, when you have access to these papers and the essential findings in them, you can not just say how Operation Smile makes an impact — you can cite it!
